Subject: Your March 17 Letter to Craig Fugage
Chris, your March 17 letter to Craig Fugate, Director of the Florida
Division of Emergency Managment, was forwarded to me.
We understand your frustration in maintaining current and accurate information,
we face the same difficulty almost daily. We do try to maintain accurate records
of Florida Emergency Management agencies and support agencies that can be accessed
on the web. If you will go to
http://www.floridadisaster.org/County_EM/county_list.htm#
you can obtain some of the information you are seeking.
(This information was given to you by our Mr. Joyner in a
reply to your email to him of July 30, 2003, by our Mr. Mike
Stone in his email to you of April 8, 2003 and our Mr.Tom Weaver in his
email to you of May 28, 2003, ).
Another resource you may find useful is www.myflorida.com, they try to keep
those listings current also. From looking at your website, I am having
difficulty understanding your intention. It appears that you would like
to implement some sort of Auxiliary Communications System in Florida but
the details, how it would work, who would be involved , etc., are not clear
to me. It also appears that you may be attempting to reinvent the wheel,
the information mentioned as being on your website is available in any
number of places on the web and through numerous organizations both in
Florida and nationwide, including the two URL's listed above.
If you have a completed disk of the Florida listings, I would be interested in
seeing it. There are proven needs for additional communications resources,
pathways and assets, especially after the 2004 Hurricane Season, but your
web site does not indicate to me that your disk or system can provide that
information.
You also need to be aware that your web site has numerous broken links and
some of the email addresses in it for you are not valid. ( "SMTP Protocol
Returned a Permanent Error 550 : Recipient
address rejected: User unknown in virtual alias table").
If we can provide additional information or assistance in your project,
please feel free to call or email.

SUBJECT: QUESTION ON FLORIDA MARS
Dear Chris,
On August 30th you sent Mr. Bert Fow an email relating that you
were researching an auxiliary communications device which might
be of use to members of Florida MARS. You also provided a web-
site reference, (http://www.geocities.com/certvolunteer) which is
a very complete reference source for contacting the many government,
public, and utility agencies throughout the state. I must say the
referenced web-site is much appreciated.
Mr. Fow ask me to follow up on this subject with you. I told him that
I was not certain exactly what you were referring to when you said
that you were "researching an auxiliary communications device". He
ask me to contact you and ask for more information.
So, my question is this: By your comment were you referring to the
information contained in the web-site you listed, or, are you talking
about some other means or venue of "auxiliary communications device"?
We (Bert and I) were not certain to exactly what you were referring. As
the Florida Army MARS Emergency Operations Officer, I have much
interest in making sure our members have information tools available
to assist them in providing coordination and emergency communications.
I thank you for your interests in Army MARS and willingness to assist.
And, I look forward to hearing from you about your research.
Sincerely yours,
Jim Hamilton, AAM4EFL
